Ekalavya awards for Karnataka sports persons announced by Minister

Bengaluru, Mar 07, 2018: Udupi’s Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister of State for Fisheries, Youth Services and Sports, announced the names of 13 sportspersons for the Ekalavya Awards and two coaches for the Lifetime Achievement awards and nine sportspersons for the Karnataka Kreeda Ratna Awards for 2016, earlier in the week.

These awards will be given by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at a function to be held at the Gurunanak Bhavan in Bengaluru today March 7, wednesday he said.

Addressing media Minister  Madhwaraj said that the 13 for the Ekalayva awards are: Harshit S. (Athletics), Rajesh Prakash Uppar (basketball), Poorvisha S. Ram (badminton), Renuka Dandin (cycling), Mayur D. Bhanu (shooting), Kartik A. (volleyball), Malvik Vishwanath (swimming), Kirtana T.K. (rowing), Ayyappa M.B. (hockey), Sukesh Hegde (kabaddi), Gururaj (weight lifting), Sandeep B. Kate (wrestling), Revati Nayak M. (physically challenged – swimming).

They will get a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakh, a bronze statue of Ekalavya and a scroll.

The two coaches for Lifetime Achievement Awards: V.R. Beedu (athletics) and M.R. Mohite (swimming). They would get a cash prize of Rs. 1.5 lakh, a scroll and a shield.

To promote rural and traditional sports, the government was giving Karnataka Kreeda Ratna awards.

Those selected for the awards are: Syed Fateheshavali H. Bepari (Atka-Patka), Yashaswini K.G. (ball badminton), Shekhar Vali (gundu ethuvudu), Yuvaraj Jain (kambala), Muneer Bhasha (kho kho) Sugunsagar H. Vadral (Mallakamba), Sabiya S. (throw ball), Atmashree H.S. (wrestling) and Dhanush Babu (roller skating). These sportspersons would get a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh and a shield.

The 10 organisations motivating sportspersons had been chosen for the ‘Karnataka Kreeda Poshaka Prashasti’ for 2017-18. They are: Brahmavar Sports Club, Brahmavar, Udupi; Kambala Samrakshane, Nirvahane Mattu Tarbeti Academy, Miyar, Udupi; Alva’s Education Foundation, Moodabidri, Dakshina Kannada; Jain University, Bengaluru; J.S.W., Ballari; Kyathanahalli Kreeda Okkoota, Mandya; Kreeda Uttejana Hagu Abhivridhi, Chandargi, Belagavi; Kantheerava Kesari Ratan Matpathi Sports and Education Society, Jamkhandi, Bagalkot; Krishna Teera Raitha Sangha, Jamkhandi, Bagalkot; and Sri Adichunchungiri Shikshana Trust, Nagamangala, Mandya.  They will get Rs. 5 lakh and a certificate.
