Eat healthy to remain free of diseases

 Mangalore, Aug 3, 2014:   Speaking at a programme on ‘food habits and dental care’ organised by Retired police officers welfare association,  Senior physician Dr B S Kakkillaya, warned, “We are eating  more of fast food and less of natural food like vegetables, fish, meat, eggs, green leafy vegetables, sprouted pulses, nuts and berries.

Dr B S Kakkillaya This will impact on the general health of individuals ,”   The percentage of people affected with non-communicable diseases like diabetes, are increasing due to change in lifestyle. Unhealthy food habits have increased the possibilities of the occurrence of diabetes and obesity among children within the age group of  8 to 10. “Any type of sugar including fructose present in fruits are bad to health.

Research findings  show that the excess intake of sugar is equal to that of the intake of alcohol and both cause fatty liver diseases,” he said. “We should follow natural diet for healthy life,” Dr Kakkilaya said.Dentist Dr Anil Kumar Deraje was the resource person. Retired police officers welfare association President B J Bhandary was present and the participants felt the information was useful.
