Kasargod, Feb 27, 2015: Two persons have been arrested by the Kasargod police on the charges of illegally transporting gold which they had smuggled from Sharjah to Bengaluru. The duo was apprehended while they were travelling in a bus and were found in possession of gold weighing 1.25 kg. The gold in the form of sheets was concealed in four suitcases and is valued at Rs 30 lakhs.
It has been gathered that the duo namely Mohammad Rafiq (28) of Melparamba and Abdul Kunhi (22) of Koliadka had earlier arrived at the Bengaluru Airport from Sharjah and had managed to evade customs officials. It is learnt from Bengaluru they headed to Sullia and from there to Kasargod in a KSRTC bus with the gold when they were trapped.
Interrogations of the duo revealed that they had resorted to similar unlawful acts even in the past.
