Bantwal, June 08, 2019: In a welcome development, the removal of silt in the MRPL dam and Shambhur AMR dam area has led to water flow with water even filling Jakribettu jack well and from there flowing into the Thumbay dam thus increasing the water level.
The dredging operation was undertaken under the initiative of Bantwal MLA Rajesh Naik Ulippadiguttu and Bantwal Councillor Govind Prabhu with the help of JCB Hitachi and other equipment.
As silt was removed, water flowed upto a 2 km distance thus ensuring there was no water scarcity in Bantwal TMC limits.
Though it had rained twice in June there was no water flow in the river. Almost all the water had remained beneath the sand. The more recent rain though had resulted in water flowing out of the Nekkilady mini dam most of it had dried up beneath the sand. The officials who had resorted to water rationing had not taken measures to undertake dredging in Sarapady and Shambhur dam area.
The dredging in MRPL dam area has resulted in water flow into Jakribettu and Thumbay dam, informed MCC Executive Engineer Linge Gowda.
Bantwal MLA Rajesh Naik has stated that dredging undertaken under their initiative in a two km area had helped in the water flow into the Jakribettu jack well and Thumbay dam.
