Dr Arunachalam Kumar, stresses on being rational- FIRA meet

Mangaluru, Aug 03, 2015:   Addressing the interaction programme organised by the FIRA - Federation of Indian Rationalist Associations and Dakshina Kannada Rationalist Association (of which Dr Arunachalam Kumar has been a founder member) at Besant College in M’luru. Professor of anotomy,  Kanachur Medical College Dr Arunachalam Kumar, who is a founder member of DK Rationalist Assn.. said, both worship of cattle and sacrifice is strangely followed by a religion in various countries.

 

 

 

Citing rituals in Pasupatinatha Temple during certain festivities where large numbers of cattle are sacrificed at the temple is revolting. The Hindu organisations have maintained silence over the issue and why is it so?  Does this generate awe and love of any God?

Prof Kumar stressed that being religious has no bearing on being disciplined. One can be good without being a ’holy religious’. He reiterated hat he was not against prayer but was against senseless orgies. Rationalism should be non-dogmatic but be based on actual reasonable facts and truth.

He went on to say the spirit of truth needs to rule.  Rationalism need not necessarily be atheism. Consideration for good, kindness and kind a heart are needed - ’as you sow; so you reap’ he pointed out has more than meets the eye. People are widely hypocritical when it comes to the preaching of holy scriptures and none is put into practice. People chose to read what appeals to them and over look what is not.

FIRA president Dr Narendra Nayak highlighted Prof Arunachalam’s association with the rationalist movement and the first meeting of Dakshina Kannada Rationalist Association at the Don Bosco hall at Mangaluru in 1976.  The meeting was organised as per the wish of Dr Arunachalam as he has been diagnosed with cancer of the lung with a not very favorable and he wished to share his eperiences.
