District Prison in news again: Under trial assaulted by jail mates

Mangalore, June 17, 2014: The District Jail in Mangalore which made news recently following an attack on cops by under trials, is now once again in news. This time however a prisoner was assaulted by other jail mates on June 17, Tuesday.

The injured prisoner Shailesh hailing from Belthangady has been admitted to Wenlock Hospital. The incident occurred when there ensued an argument between Shailesh and another prisoner, said to be an accomplice of notorious criminal Vicky Shetty, when they were standing in the queue for breakfast.

The altercation soon saw other prisoners stand up against Shailesh and assaulting him. It has been gathered that Shailesh sustained minor injuries.

Barke police rushed to the prison on gathering information about the assault.
