District Administration outlines safety rules for school vehicles

Mangaluru, June 23, 2016 :  All  vehicles including private vehicles that  ferry  children to and fro schools should be mandatorily painted  in yellow as per the instructions of Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim.


A.B. IbrahimPresiding  over a meeting of officials with regard to safety of school vehicles, on June 22, Wednesday,  the DC directed the RTO to initiate stern action against those vehicles which fail to adhere to the law. Violators  will face action from July 1 onwards, he added.

 Only  six children below 12 years can travel in autorickshaw which carry students to schools, while a maximum of eight children can be taken in a Maruti Omni. Children above 12 years   can be taken in autorickshaw as per the existing rules of the RTO, the DC said.

 The vehicles which carry children to schools should display ’on school’ duty, should have first ad boxes, have speed governors, uniform grills and fire emergency kits. The vehicles should also prominently display the  name and telephone numbers  of the schools  and there should be an attendant to take care of the children.

SP Bhushan Gulabrao Borase said the Department has already initiated inspection of school vehicles and that action would follow after a week long campaign. All schools and school vehicle owners should mandatory abide by the rules, he said.
