Mangaluru, May 16, 2020: Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh has said that the district administration has succeeded in preventing secondary Covid-19 infection during the arrival of the passengers from Dubai at the Mangaluru International Airport on May 12 by a special flight under the Vande Mataram Mission, by not allowing family members and others to the airport.
No one is allowed even to the quarantine centres where these passengers are presently kept. Even the staff of the airport, police personnel and security personnel were made to stand at a distance when the passengers arrived. Even media was not allowed except a photographer of the Information Department who was standing at a distance wearing PPE kit and recording the proceedings. Even minimum possible officials of the district administration and Health Department were present on the occasion.
As all precautions were taken and staff were wearing personal protective equipment, there is no need for them to go into quarantine, said District Health Officer Dr Ramachandra Bairi.
It may be mentioned here that a total of 20 passengers who have arrived by that flight had tested positive for Covid-19.
