Dist. Minister seeks 14.4 cr from Centre to construct Ranga Mandira

Mangalore, Sep 18, 2014: Speaking to mediapersons, Minister for Forest, Environment and Ecology B Ramanath Rai has said that Rs 14.4 crore fund has been sought from the Tagore Cultural Complex scheme of the Ministry of Culture of Union government for the construction of Ranga Mandira.He said that the district administration has around Rs four crore and will seek Rs 6.4 crore from the State government to complete the project.

The Ranga Mandira, a cultural complex, will be constructed at Bondel in Marakada at a cost of Rs 24 crore. The work will commence once the State government gives administrative nod. The work on Ranga Mandira will be entrusted to the Karnataka Housing Board.

DC A B Ibrahim said that the Ranga Mandira will come up on 3.25 acre land. The offices of Kannada and Culture department, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy and Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy will be shifted to the new four-storied Ranga Mandira built on 6,694 square metre area once completed. The Ranga Mandira will have a hall with a capacity to accomodate 1,500 persons, latest sound and light system, two seminar halls with acapacity to accomodate 250 persons each, art gallery and exhibition area, four guest houses, parking lot to park 130 cars, place to exhibit books and stock rooms.

Elephant menace : Responding to query on elephant menace, the Minister said that iron fencing with the railway tracks will be erected on periphery of forests of Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada, Hassan, and Tumkur to prevent wild elephant menace.

Janata Darshan : Minister for Forest, Environment and Ecology & Dist Minister, B Ramanath Rai Ramanath Rai has said that sepcial taluk-level Janata Darshan meets will be held to solve problems faced by the people on all Wednesdays, in the month of October in Dakshina Kannada district. He told media, that the district-level officers along with Minister will attend the meeting. A special taluk-level KDP meets will be held held in DK district after the completion of Janata Darshana.
