Diocese of Mangalore gets 4 new priests, ordination at Rosario Cathedral

Mangaluru, May 2, 2019: Bishop of Mangalore diocese, Rev Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, lead the solemn festive 3 hour ritual filled with meaning, very spiritual  -the ordination or anointing of 4 deacons to the priesthood at Rosario Cathedral on the forenoon of May 2, Thursday . A large number of priests/clergy, more than 200, religious, family members of  the new priests,  well wishers and congregation filled the Cathedral with divine music by a youth group - the whole service being in traditional Konkani, official language of the diocese. Immediately after the religious rituals, a felicitation programme was conducted and the new priests  with their parents were suitably honoured by the Bishop and church.

The solemn Eucharistic celebration presided over by the bishop along with other concelebrant priests including Msgr. Maxim L. Noronha, Vicar General of the diocese, Very Rev Fr Victor George D’Souza Chancellor of the diocese, Fr Joseph Martis the Rector of St Joseph Seminary Jeppu.In his homily and instructions to new priests bishop emphasized the importance of Priesthood and their ministry to the church.  A priest is a priest in Christ forever and so has to be well prepared to give up and live in accordance with the vows and God’s inspiration..

After Rite of Ordination; the promise of obedience to the Bishop, prostrating and seeking help of the saints, laying on of hands invoking the Holy Spirit, anointing of the Hands, receiving the chalice and finally the Kiss of Peace given by bishop in the presence of priests, religious and faithful, the Holy Eucharist proceeded with four new priests along with bishop concelebrating.
The four new priests include, Fr Larry Franklin Pinto, Ferar Parish, Fr Pramodh Crasta, Kasrgod Parish, Fr Nelson Peris, Farla Parish and Fr Ozmond Roshan D’Souza Shimoga Parish

A felicitation program was organized by the diocese to honor and congratulate Newly Ordained Priests and their family members.  Fr J.B Crasta Rector of Cathedral welcomed the gathering. V. Rev Msgr Maxim Nohrohna, Vicar Genral of the Diocese greeted the new priests and called upon to honour them.  Bishop Peter Paul, appreciated the parents and family of the 4 new priests for the generosity they practice in presenting their dear one to serve God and Church. He appreciated the care and contribution of all the mentors and particularly, the former Bishop Rev Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza for having launched and nurtured these 4 young clerics who today start bearing fruit.


New ordinand Fr Larry Pinto expressed his deep sentiments of gratitude on behalf of all the new priests. Rev. Fr Rohan Lobo compered the felicitation program. Fr Vijay Machado Director of Mangalajyothi guided the liturgical ceremony step by step.  It was indeed a red letter day for all present and a day that will remain memorable in the annals of the newly ordained priests all through their lives in the great service that they have been chosen for.
