Dilwale impasse: Police Dept willing to provide security to theatres, Commissioner

Mangaluru, Dec 24, 2015:  With regard to some  rumours that  the police have not provided adequate security to theatres to ensure screening of Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol starrer ’Dilwale,’ the city Police Commissioner S Murugan has clarified that the police have  already intimated the theatre and multiplex owners that they were ready to provide security if requested.

It may be recalled here that  members of the Bhajrangdal had on December 20, Saturday staged protest and prevented the screening of ’Dilwale’ in three multiplexes of the city  to condemn the recent statement on intolerance made by the actor.

Speaking to reporters here, Murugan said "Soon after the protest, the police had made adequate security arrangements and   had told the theatre owners that the police can provide security if they want to screen the film.

He also stated that though meetings have been held with theatre managements, so far no measure  has been taken to  screen the film.

Referring to  the complaint  filed by social activist Vidya Dinker of Citizens’ Forum for Mangalore Development  against a few Bhajrangdal activists for preventing the screening of the film, the Commissioner said  investigations are underway.
 The Commissioner also stated that  the Department has take action against an activist who had  made posted a derogatory comment against  Vidya Dinker on Facebook. 

The Commissioner conveyed his Eid Milad and Christmas wishes to the people and assured that all security arrangements are in place to ensure a peaceful festival.
