Digital India campaign can make India more powerful than US : Sudheendra Kulkarni

Udupi, Oct 18, 2015 : Eminent columnist and  Mumbai Observer Research Foundation Chairman Sudheendra Kulkarni has said that the Digital India campaign of  Prime Minister Narendra Modi was capable of making India more powerful than the United States.

He was  delivering the MV Kamath Memorial Lecture on "Communications for a better world," organised by the Manipal School of Communications at the Syndicate Bank Golden Jubilee Hall on October 17, Saturday.

Stressing the  role of  communications in a modern world, Kulkarni said   communications is vital to protect civilisation, humanity and culture.Pointing out that journalism played a very important role in the freedom struggle, he said even Gandhiji laid more emphasis on communication.

 Paying tributes to MV Kamath, he said Kamath’s life, his discipline and dedication was an inspiration to all.

School of Communications Director Dr Nandini Lakshmikanth,  Subrahmani, General Manager  of Syndicate Bank Regional Office  and others were present.

Later, speaking to reporters, Sudheendra Kulkarni said the recent ink attack on him by Shiva Sena activists ahead of the book launch of former Pak foreign minister Mohammad Kasuri,  was an attack on the status  of the nation  and also on the principle of tolerance.

Continuing, he said the ink attack on him had a great bearing on the society with many now strongly feeling that dialogue was the only option to resolve differences between India and Pakistan.

Referring to the killing of scholar MM Kalburgi, he said no scope must be given to the growth of intolerance in the nation. "Intolerance is not our culture," he said adding  it is now left to the government to ensure that incidents like Dadri lynching were not repeated.
