Belthangady, May 01, 2015: A total of 143 couples from across the state and even from Kerala tied the nuptial knot at the 44th Mass Marriage Ceremony organised at Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala on April 30, Thursday evening on the auspicious Godhooli Lagna Muhurtham.
Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala gifted sarees to the brides-to-be and dhoti and shawls to the grooms. Prior to the marriage ceremony, the couples participated in a grand procession upto the Amrithavarshini Hall where the ceremony was held.
Shalini Rajaneesh, Principal Secretary, Department of Backward Classes Welfare who was the chief guest of the occasion, along with Dr Veerendra Heggade and other guests distributed Mangalasutra to the grooms.
Speaking on the occasion, Shalini Rajaneesh urged the newly married couple to lead a virtuous life and build a bright future for themselves. She also lauded the social service activities of Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala under the leadership of Dr Veerendra Heggade.
In his address, Dr Heggade exhorted the couples to live a life of peace and harmony through better understanding and co-operation.
K Vasanth Bangera, MLA of Belthangady and Sudhir Jain from Satna who too were present as chief guests, blessed the couples.
Hemavathi V Heggade, D Harshendra Kumar and others were present.
Of the 144 pairs which entered wedlock, 23 pairs had an inter caste marriage while 26 belonged to scheduled castes and scheduled tribes.
Aid for Nepal quake victims: On this occasion, Dr Heggade informed that an aid of Rs one crore in the form of rice and a mobile surgery unit will be provided for Nepal earthquake victims on behalf of Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala. A two-minute silence was also observed on the occasion to seek the well being of the people of Nepal who are in great distress following the massive earthquake.
