Dharma Shree Award for Nana Patekar, K T Shankaran

Mangaluru, Feb 05, 2017: Dharma Shree Pratishtana, Puttur, has selected actor Nana Patekar for Dharma Shree Award for 2016 and justice K T Shankaran, judge (retired) of Kerala high court for the award for 2017.

The trust has been conferring annual Dharma Shree awards to distinguished personalities every year considering their outstanding service to the society and the first award was conferred in 2009 to Sri Raghaveshwara Bharati, seer of Sri Ramachandra Math.

The trust has been rendering charitable activities to the society and also maintaining ’Hanumagiri’, a well-known religious place in Dakshina Kannada district. Other recipients of the award are justice Rama Jois, former governor of Bihar, Ashok Singhal, former international president of VHP, S L Bairappa, writer, K J Yesudas, eminent carnatic singer, Murli Manohar Joshi, former minister for human resources development, and B V Acharya, legal luminary.

Nana Patekar is a famous film and theatre personality. He has been rendering yeomen service to the society by undertaking various developmental work for farmers in the drought affected villages of Maharashtra through the NAAM Foundation. Justice Sankaran who recently retired as the judge of the Kerala HC has dealt with many important and sensitive cases and delivered many landmark judgments concerning the national security and national integrity.

The Dharmashree Award will be conferred on the duo on February 11 and 12 at Sri Ramotsava function to be held at Hanumagiri in Ishwaramangala in Puttur taluk in the presence of Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala, governor of Karnataka and the scion of Mysuru royal family Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadeyar, and other dignitaries, a communique from board of trustees of the Dharmashree Pratishtana stated.
