Mangaluru, Aug 17,2017: The Yenepoya Medical College Hospital at Deralakatte on the outskirts of Mangaluru is worried over increasing incidents of vandalism inside and outside its premises affecting smooth functioning and has demanded setting up of a police outpost near the hospital.

Yenepoya MedicalIn a release here, the hospital said that the latest example of vandalism was the damage caused to eight cars, including two belonging to its doctors, which were parked outside the premises on a leased parking lot. Some miscreants smashed the windshields of some cars, dented the bodies of others and damaged window panes of the remaining recently, the hospital said. A relative of the patient who was inside one of the cars sustained injuries and came running to the hospital to get treatment and alerted the security personnel. Since relatives of patients had come from far-off places, they did not intend to lodge police complaint; but the hospital staff whose cars were damaged, filed complaints, it added.

The hospital said that this was not a one-off incident; but such incidents have become order of the day in the area. It said that the Madani Nagar area where the hospital is situated is sensitive in terms of law and order. Anti-social elements have been targeting the hospital, the staff and the innocent patients and their family members. Their only motive is to foment trouble and create issues to make money, which is hampering the smooth running of the hospital, especially in the night when emergency cases are brought.

The only solution appears to be to set up a permanent police outpost in the area, the hospital said and added that this would help bring respite to residents as well as patients.
