Denying benefits to SC/ST s to attract strict action

Mangaluru, June 27, 2018:  During the monthly SC/ST grievances redressal meeting held at the City Police Commissionerate office, dalit leaders explained the problems encountered by a youth from Kankanady while getting a loan and financial assistance sanctioned under a welfare scheme of the government.  Authorities warned banks and government officials of strict action if they deny SC/ST beneficiaries from availing financial assistance and loan under various schemes of the government.

Reacting to it, DCP (Law and Order) Hanumantharaya and Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement SP Dr C V Vedamurthy said strict action would be initiated against those who deny facilities of the government to the beneficiaries.

DCP Hanumantharaya said, “The banks and various corporations of the government should not delay the clearing of applications citing technical reasons. If officials engage in undue delay in clearing the applications, then applicants can file a complaint either
to the police or to the Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement.”

There was a complaint on denial of seats in a few schools under RTE Act. Reacting to this, the police directed for a complaint to be filed mentioning the name of the institution. He said that DDPI will be asked to verify all the schools on the implementation of the RTE Act.

Illegal centres  :  Dalit leader said that in the guise of massage parlours, prostitution racket is being organised in a few places in Mangaluru. Female children are trafficked. There is a need to check illegal activities, he added.

Reacting to it, Hanumantharaya said, “There are a few technical issues to directly get involved in massage parlours. As per the directions of the High Court, the centres will be inspected. There has been an increase in prostitution racket in apartments. The police are keeping an eye on such apartments.”

Missing person :  Dalit leader Shekar urged the police to help in tracing a Dalit youth who has been missing for the last 10 months from Jeppinamogaru. The police are harassing the family members instead of tracing the youth, he alleged.
