Mangaluru, Nov 13, 2017: The Karnataka unit of Dental Council of India (DCI) has announced that all the dentists in the state will not work Nov 13,  Monday supporting doctor’s ’Belagavi Chalo’ protest against the proposed amendment to the Karnataka Private Medical Establishments Act.

Dentists.DCI state spokesperson Shivacharan Shetty said all the dentists in the state will close their clinics and participate in the Belagavi Chalo protest.

Dr Shetty said the proposed amendments will have an adverse impact on the functioning of private doctors and hospitals. "Though several appeals were made, the government has planned to present the Bill during the winter session of the state legislature that will begin in Belagavi on Monday. The government should not approve the amendments. It is the trust between the doctors and the patients that increases the bond. However, the Act will create a rift between them. Doctors will have to think twice before attending patients in case of emergency because of the Act" he said, adding that there are possibilities of doctors moving to other states if the Bill is implemented.

The Act will affect the common man more. Hence, people should also support doctors’ protest , he said.

Private doctors and hospital managements have been oppposing the amendments to the KPME Act, esepcially to a provision that seeks a jail term for doctors in case of negligence in providing treatment.
