The common man had been put to grave difficulties due to the move and no response had been received from the Prime Minister to his letter, asking to make it mandatory for private hospitals to accept the old high denomination notes, he said.

The state government could not take any action to ease the present situation or provide compensation to relatives of those who died standing in queues since it was the Union governments decision, he said, adding the state had no authority to take any step of its own in this regard.

Referring to the recent incidents of communal violence around Ullal in the city, he assured that strict action would be taken against those who try to disrupt communal harmony in the coastal district.

Directions had already been given to police officials to take stringent measures against anyone who created communal disturbance.

Prohibitory orders had been extended in the city limits till Nov 23 following communal clashes in Ullal area.
