Demand for bus to Landlinks, city police chief’s immediate action

Mangaluru, Feb 03, 2018: Following repeated complaints by residents of Landlinks Township about the refusal of private buses to ply from their area, Police Commissioner T.R. Suresh on Feb 2, Friday wrote to the Regional Transport Officer and the Divisional Controller of Mangaluru Division of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation for bus service from the area.

 

Chief  Suresh wrote the letter following a complaint by a resident of Landlinks Township during the weekly phone-in programme on Feb 2,  Friday. The resident said buses on Route No.17 were refusing to come to Landlinks Township from Atrabail.

CPC Suresh told the caller that following the same grievance made during the earlier phone-in programmes he recently called a meeting of the private bus operators.

“They had assured of running buses to and from the Township. As they have failed to act by their assurance, I will raise the issue with the officials concerned,” he told the caller.

He immediately called Divisional Controller (DC) of KSRTC Mangaluru division and apprised him of the need of bus service for the township. CPC Suresh told reporters that temporary permits can be issued for KSRTC to operate buses needed for the residents. The private buses have abruptly stopped the service few days ago after operating for over four years.

An elderly woman from Pandeshwar complained against the operators of a shopping mall in the area for allowing parking of two-wheelers on pavements.“It causes inconvenience to pedestrians like me. Few days back I fell and got injured,” she said.

A resident of Surathkal complained about personnel manning toll gate not wearing uniform. 

A resident from Jeppu asked police to use closed circuit television cameras to book cases against tempos transporting fish that discharge water while on the move. Transporting foul smelling fish bins in tempos too need attention. A caller from Mannagudde complained of the difference in the reading of pollution levels by the instrument used by the Karnataka Pollution Control Department and the one used by Emission Testing Centres. A resident of Kinnigoli complained about haphazard parking of vehicles in his area.  The city police chief gave consideration to matters raised by citizens.
