Delay in works: Minister warns action at Taluk review

Mangaluru, Nov 9,2015: Chairing the Mangaluru Taluk Panchayat quarterly review meeting at the panchayat hall, Minister for Youth Services, Sports and Fisheries K Abhaychandra Jain has warned the officials of strict action in case of delay in implementing schemes in spite of availability of funds.


Abhaychandra JainThe minister said that MRPL -  Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited has donated Rs 10 lakh for the construction of Ambedkar Bhavan in Bala. The government has also released a grant for the purpose. Officials can’t just keep the amount in the bank. The money should be utilised at the earliest and work should be completed within a time frame.

Mescom Assistant Executive Engineer Thimmappa Gowda said that power supply cannot be given to a borewell dug under Ganga Kalyana scheme in Kandavara limits since it was located 60 metre away from public drinking water source. According to the rules, permission cannot be granted if the borewell is located within 250-metre radius of a public water source.

The minister was enraged by the official’s answer and took him to task for not giving the connection though the Panchayat Development Officer has issued a No Objection certificate. He directed the staff to write to the government against the official.

Child Development Project Officer Shyamala informed the minister that Rs 27 lakh has been sanctioned for the repair of 52 anganwadi centres in the taluk limits and work is under progress. The minister said that the work should be completed within one or one and half months. The office said that though grants were available for setting up new anganwadi centres, sites in suitable location were not available in urban limits. The tahsildar said that there were 28 such proposals and the problem would addressed at the earliest.

Officials said that the land identified for Raitha Samparka Kendra in Moodabidri hobli includes the one for the court as well. As most of the government lands in the hobli are listed as deemed forest, a new site will be identified for the Kendra after a joint inspection by revenue and forest departments.

Health department officials said that no polio cases were detected in the taluk. However, polio vaccination will commence again in January and continue till the end of February. The vaccine would be given to students of Class one, four and ten. The horticulture department officials said that they have distributed saplings to about 100 schools in the taluk.
