Mangaluru, Jan 06, 2018: In what can be termed as a setback for Mangaluru North MLA Moidin Bava who had earlier announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh on his behalf to the family of the murdered youth Deepak Rao, the family has rejected the compensation when the MLA visited their house along with MLC Ivan D’Souza on Friday.
There is information that Deepak’s family questioned the MLA over his absence at the funeral of Deepak and also wanted to know why the body was secretly shifted to Katipalla from the hospital.
The MLA however tried to convince the family that he did not attend the funeral at the advice of the police and also that he had visited the hospital the previous night itself.
Later, speaking to reporters, Bava alleged that the opposition leaders were unnecessarily spreading lies and that he has strived to prevent communal disturbance in his constituency. Stating that he had no links with the accused in the case, the MLA chose to allege that the accused had worked for BJP during the previous elections.
MLC Ivan also stated that the government was trying to maintain peace and harmony in the region and urged the opposition against attempts to incite communal feelings.
