Decennial Celebration of Konkni Kutam, Bahrain held in Mangalore

Mangalore, Jan 17: Decennial Celebration of Konkni Kutam Bahrain organized a competition for Konkani singing, short story writing and poetry writing. The prize distribution and the valedictory was held on January 16, 2010 at Kalaangann, Mangalore.

The function began with the lighting of the traditional lamp by Rev. Fr. Walter D’Mello, Parish Priest of Milagres, Mangalore in the presence of. Mr. Ronald Gomes, President of Rachana, Mangalore, Mr. Eric Ozerio, Gurkar of Mandd Sobhann, Mr. Marcel D’Souza, President, Konkani Writers forum, Mangalore, and Mr. Richard Moras, Convener of Konkni Kutam Bahrain.

 

 


"Ten years ago, we formed the Konkni Kutam Bahrain organization in Bahrain to reinforce Konkani language and culture. Over the years we supported and encouraged a lot of Konkani writers and singers by organizing various programs and competitions. ’Konkni Kutam Award’ is given to them as reward and recognition, every year said Mr. Richard Moras addressing the gathering”. “This is an occasion to distribute prizes to the winners of various competitions this year”. We have come a long way since we have embarked on a noble purpose. We will continue to support and encourage Konkani literature through our organization.


The singing competition was held at Kalaangann on 15th January. There were 8 groups participated from various parishes: Alangar, Bajal, Fajir, Jeppu, Vamanjoor, Bajpe, Surathkal, and Moodabidri.

Prizes were distributed by Rev. Fr. Walter D’Mello, Mr. Marcel D’Souza, Mr. Ronald Gomes and Mr. Eric Ozerio.


Mr. Titus Noronha welcomed the gathering and introduced the guests.

The prize winners are

Short story writing :
1st place -(Rs. 10,000): Shann Bondel
2nd place -(Rs.. 5000): Ms. Catherine Rodrigues

Poetry competition:
1st place - (Rs. 10,000): Mr. Antony D’Souza, Barkur
2nd place -(Rs.. 5,000): H. M. Pernal, Mangalore

Singing competition
1st place -(Rs. 15,000): Bajpe Parish
2nd place -(Rs.. 10,000): St. Joseph’s Jeppu
