Nelyady, Sep 04, 2018: The death of a young engineer named Ashith (24), son of Anand Poojary of Ichlampady Karyathadka at a private hospital in Mangaluru nearly six days ago due to suspected Rabies infection has created a sort of panic in the village with over 170 people who had participated in his last rites rushing to hospital to get themselves anti-rabies injections.
Ashith who had completed his engineering from a college in Sullia just one and half months ago was admitted to a hospital in Puttur on August 25 after he developed severe pain in the waist making him unable to walk.
Later he was shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru where he had breathed his last on August 28. Over 500 people had participated in his cremation.
It has been learnt that the doctors at the hospital had informed about the cause of the death and had packed the body asking them to take the body straight to the crematorium after offering water at home. But the family had performed all other rituals at home and hundreds of people too had arrived to pay their last respects.
Meanwhile over 171 people including some ZP members and TP members who had participated in the cremation have taken Anti-rabies injection.
But no one is aware if Ashith had suffered dog bite.
Meanwhile, Taluk Medical Officer Dr Ashok Kumar Rai has confirmed that the District Health officer had received the report from the hospital where Ashith was undergoing treatment that he had died of Rabies injection. He also stated that sufficient stock of anti-rabies injections have been procured.
It is learnt the family members of Ashith had not informed anyone about the cause of his death.
