Dasara holidays rescheduled, objections considered

Mangaluru, Oct 07, 2016: Schools in Dakshina Kannada have rescheduled Dasara vacation, which will now start Oct 12, Wednesday, after parents objected to the holiday schedule announced by the government (Oct 9-23). The schools convinced their managements and the department of public instruction to reschedule the dates.

Dasara Arguing that Dasara vacation declared by the government almost start when the festivities end, parents urged school managements to reschedule the dates, following which few schools have declared vacation from October 5-19.

When private schools urged the DDPI to re-schedule holidays, they were asked to get approval from their respective managements.

"After the nod, block education officers allowed schools to reschedule their vacation," DDPI Walter H D’Mello told media , adding he wasn’t aware of the numbers of schools that have rescheduled the dates.

Navarathri, celebrated as ’MangaluruDasara’ in the coastal city, is observed from October 1-10 and holidays were scheduled from October 9.

Children are already busy studying as most schools have semester exam between September 20 and October 8.

The state government had earlier declared Dasara vacation from October 9-27 but later changed to October 9-23.

B’luru schools open on Saturdays in Nov  :  The department of public instruction, Bengaluru, has not only shortened the Dasara vacation but also asked schools to hold full day classes on all Saturdays in November. Walter said the commissioner of department of public instruction, Bengaluru, in a circular has urged that all Saturdays in November be considered ’full working day’ to compensate the various holidays follo wing the protests last month.
