Dakshina Kannada coast fishing ban from June 1

Mangaluru, May 24, 2017: It is reliably reported that Monsoon ban on fishing using mechanized boats and traditional boats with inboard/ outboard engines of more than 10HP capacity will be in force along Dakshina Kannada district coast for 61 days from June 1 to July 31.


fishing The office of deputy director, department of fisheries has issued a circular banning fishing as per provisions of Karnataka Marine Fishing (Regulation) Act, 1986. Accordingly, fishing in the sea using fishing nets/ other equipment in all types of mechanized boats and traditional boats with inboard/ outboard engines above 10HP capacity is banned during the period. Traditional fishing boats with inboard/ outboard engines below 10HP capacity are allowed to venture into sea during the ban period.


Those fishermen, who violate the ban order, will be charged under the provisions of the Karnataka Marine Fishing (regulation) Act. Moreover, they will also lose their eligibility to avail diesel on subsidized rate and will not receive any compensation for accidents that may occur, an official said.
