Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat’s top posts go to Meenakshi Shantigodu, Kasturi Panja

Mangaluru, April 28, 2016 :  Meenakashi Shantigodu is the new President of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat while Kasturi Panja is the Vice President. Both are from the BJP and are first time ZP members. The elections to the top two posts were held at the Netravathi Hall of ZP office on April 28, Thursday. The posts were reserved for an SC/ST candidate and  general category candidate respectively.

 The Congress had fielded Shekhar Kukkedi for the President’s post against Meenakshi.  The BJP candidate secured 21 votes as against the 15 votes of Congress candidate. On the other hand, Kasturi Panja  defeated Anitha Hemanath Shetty by the same margin.

  The DK Zilla Panchayat has a total of 36 seats out of which the BJP has 21 members and the Congress 15 members.

AM Kunjappa was the election officer. Sreevidya,ZP CEO and others were present.

 Speaking to reporters soon after his election, ZP President Meenakshi said she would accord top priority to solve the water woes and also ensure improvement of basic amenities.

 Even the new ZP Vice President Kasturi Panja said that developmental works would be her priority.
