Dakshina Kannada Police introduce patrolling on Shiradi, Charmadi, Sampaje Ghats

Mangaluru, Jan 20, 2016 : Dakshina Kannada Police have introduced special highway patrolling vehicles for three major Ghat roads that connect Bengaluru, Chikmagaluru and Kodagu with the port city.

Patrolling will commence on Shiradi Ghat, Charmadi Ghat and Sampaje Ghat roads from Saturday, said Superintendent of Police Bhushan Gulabrao Borase.


A highway patrolling vehicle will be deployed on Mani - Shiradi Ghat road on Mangaluru - Bengaluru route and it will be based at Uppinangady police station. Another vehicle will be patrolling on Bantwal - Charmadi Ghat road that connect Chikkamagaluru and it will be based at Bantwal town police station. Meanwhile, one vehicle will be on patrolling on Mani Sampaje Ghat road that connect Kodagu and it will be based at Sullia police station.


On Mangaluru - Bengaluru route, the patrolling vehicle will cover the stretches from Mani via Neerakatte, Shiradi Ghat and return after reaching Barchinahalli. The vehicle on Bantwal - Charmadi route will cover Belthangady town in addition to Charmadi Ghat. Mani - Sampaje route vehicle will carry out patrolling up to Kallugundi, the SP said.


"The main aim of introducing patrolling vehicles on Ghat road stretches in the district is to reach spots whenever accidents take place. In addition, the patrolling vehicles will also serve in case a traffic snarl reports on Ghat roads. It will also prevent robbery and other criminal activities on the stretches. The state government has introduced 100 highway patrolling vehicles for national highways in the state," Borase said.


The patrolling vehicles will have first aid box, folding stretcher, 180 degree rotatable latest technology CC Camera with recording system, 180 degree rotatable high beam top search light, tri-color bar light system, multi-sound featured advanced PA system, inverter with power back up, GPRS GPS facility and wireless connectivity. Policemen, who have been deputed for patrolling duty, have been given sufficient training to use all modern equipment available in the vehicle. They also have been given training in first aid, the SP added.
