Dakshina Kannada: 20% deficit rainfall this season

Mangaluru, Aug 1, 2016: Reliable reports say that DK district has seen a deficit of 23% rainfall in July month. The cumulative rainfall in July month was 948.7 mm, which though is 30 mm more than what the district received last July during the same period, but as far as the normal average for July month is concerned, the rainfall is 269 mm deficit. The cumulative rainfall average for July month is 1,217 mm.

While Belthangady taluk has received the highest amount of rainfall at 1,200mm this month, last year it was at 990 mm. The rainfall in other taluks of Dakshina Kannada District is a bit less as compared to last year.

Bantwal taluk received 940 mm which is 100mm less than what the taluk received last year. Rest of the taluks Mangaluru taluk received 900 mm (last year 1,150 mm), Puttur received 845 mm (last year 890 mm) and Sullia received 790 mm which is 200mm less rainfall than last year.

The district receives a total average rainfall of 3,912 mm per year, with Belthangady and Puttur receiving highest rainfall at 4,509 mm and 4,017 mm. So, hopefully August will bring a better scenario.
