Mangalore, July 20: The DK Zilla Pourakarmikara Hagu Nalkane Darje Naukarara Sangha organized a protest procession from Jyothi Circle to the DC’s office today, in which the protestors were semi clad.

In his protest address, K. Suresh, the general secretary of the association, said that the authorities concerned have chosen to ignore the repeated pleas of the workers to regularize the services of 126 daily wage labourers working in the health section of the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC). Although the workers have been agitating for 10 years, no measures have been taken, he added.

Speaking on the occasion, P. Keshava said that the workers’ also staged a begging protest in front of the MCC on Feb 26 this year to draw the attention of the government to their demands, but they were still ignored. He also said that the workers have submitted memorandums to N. Yogish Bhat, the deputy speaker of the state assembly, and Krishna J. Palemar, the district-in-charge minister.

The state government is giving crores of rupees to various communities and for the development of city infrastructure, but it is least bothered about regularizing the working conditions of the city workers, said Mr. Keshava, adding that the state government is least bothered about the daily wage earners.

Shivappa, the honorary president of the association, Corporator Appi, and Nirmal Kumar were among those who were present.
