Daggers, knives, mobile phones recovered at Mangaluru prison

Mangaluru, Nov 5, 2015: It is reliably stated that dagger and three knives, used for the murder of two associates of underworld operative Chota Shakeel in Mangaluru District Prison, were recovered on Nov 4, following an intensive search.

 

Five persons associated with underworld operative Vikki Shetty’s associate Akashbhavan Sharan had jumped the wall of their cell and murdered Madoor Isubbu (42) and Ganesh Shetty (40).

A statement by Police Commissioner S. Murugan said that the arms were found  hidden ’inside the prison’.

On Nov 3,  Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order) Alok Mohan said the assailants had stabbed Isubbu 40 times. Ganesh Shetty died after being hit by the blunt sides of the sharp weapons. ADGP  Alok Mohan had said the murder was well planned and had been executed on the directions of persons outside Mangaluru prison.

He said the police were verifying the veracity of the calls made by Vikki Shetty to some media houses to reportedly claim he was behind the murders.  In light of allegations of availability of prohibited items inside the prison, the prison and police personnel jointly searched cells and barracks on Nov 4  and found 16 mobile phones,  kitchen knives, SIM cards, memory cards, mobile chargers,  wires, cutting pliers, packets of chilli powder, electric stove and such.   Confirming this, Additional Director-General of Police (Prisons) Kamal Pant said some more actions were being planned to put the system back in order in Mangaluru prison.

No precautions taken in prison’
In this regard, MLC Ivan D’Souza, said that slackness on the part of prison officials and other district officials led to the murder of two inmates in the Mangaluru District Prison.  While demanding disciplinary action should be taken against officials concerned, MLC  D’Souza said Home Minister cannot be blamed for inaction.

MLC  D’Souza Nov 4,  placed before reporters answers given by the then Home Minister K.J. George in February and July to unstarred questions. In his statement, then Home Minister said about sanction of installation of mobile jammers, CCTVs in the prison.  The Minister has denied clashes of inmates on a regular frequency and about misuse of mobile phones in the Mangaluru District prison.  Now it is seen that the mobile jammer are lying in a corner in the prison.
