Mangaluru, May 10, 2015 :Briefing the media, Union Minister for Law D V Sadananda Gowda who inspected the ongoing work on Road Under Bridge (RUB) at Padil-Bajal on May 9, Saturday, along with MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and railway and other officials stated that the work on RUB will be completed at the earliest.

The work had commenced a year ago. However, it could not be completed by March 1 as expected. The railways and the MCC - Mangalore City Corporation have a joint responsibility to complete the project at the earliest. "Problems will be caused if the major portion of the work is not completed before the onset of monsoon.  Water accumulated will be pumped during the rainy season this year. But, issues of clogging of water should be sorted out at the earliest, hopefully major works will be completed by June 30" he added.

He went to point out that during his tenure as rail Minister, 16 trains were sanctioned for Karnataka, and five more will be started soon. "Byndoor-Kasargod train is already running, and I have already spoken with the minister concerned about Mangaluru-Bengaluru train and it will be done soon. Mangaluru - Shravanabelagola train will be started by next March," he said.

Sadananda Gowda further said that the union government is mulling special legal reforms for the benefit of undertrials who are languishing in jails for a longer period than the punishment stipulated in their cases.

Regarding Mekedatu project, he said that Tamil Nadu has been unnecessarily been creating problems. "When Tamil Nadu faced water scarcity, Karnataka released 194 TMC of water, as per order of Supreme Court and the Cauvery Tribunal. Mekedatu project will help Tamil Nadu too and it shoud not be creating problems," he said. The public and officials cordially interacted with the Union Minister and other VIP’s present.
