DK sees 86% success on day 1 of Pulse Polio campaign

Mangaluru, Aprl 3, 2017: Reports state that a total of 1,41,842 children were administered pulse polio drops in Dakshina Kannada, thus registering 85.92% success on the first day of the first phase of the National Pulse Polio programme on Sunday.  The target is to administer drops to 1,64,965 children.

The Department of Health and Family Welfare had set up 921 booths for administering the drops. The service of 3,816 vaccinators is being utilised for the success of the drive. The health workers will visit houses in the next two days to ensure that all the children are covered under the campaign.

Inaugurating the district-level programme at Lady Goschen Hospital in Mangaluru on Sunday, MLA J R Lobo said, "Such immunisation programmes are essential for a healthy society. All of us should strive to maintain cleanliness."

DHO Dr Ramakrishna said that the district reported the last polio case 17 years ago. Special teams have been constituted to visit railway stations, airport, bus stand, marriage halls to administer polio drops to below five year old children.
