Mangaluru, July 29, 2015 : Former President of India, scentist, misile expert and great human that Dr. A P  was is well appreciated in Mangaluru city and Dakshina Kannada district where education is seen to be high.  Grieved and with profound sentiments, the demise of former President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam,  thousands paid  tributes across the district on July 28.

While the scheduled meeting of the KDP - Karnataka Development Programme  was earlier stated to be postponed, the meeting was held July 28,  after paying tributes to Late Dr. Kalam.

DK District in-charge Minister B. Ramanath Rai recalled the contributions of the ‘People’s President’. Ministers U.T. Khader and K. Abhayachandra , zilla panchayat president Asha Thimmappa Gowda, and DK DC  Adoor.B. Ibrahim paid floral tributes.

Mangaluru South MLA J.R. Lobo led hundreds of school and college students in mourning the demise of Dr. Kalam.   At an event organised in Government First Grade College, Balmatta in the city, the MLA asked the college administration to hold a special class this week to enlighten students about Dr. Kalam.

Students of St. Aloysius College recited verses from the holy scriptures – the Bible, the Quran and the Bhagavad Gita – as a homage.  Late Dr. Kalam had inaugurated the postgraduate and IT block in the college during his visit in 2003. In his message, Fr. Swebert D’Silva, college principal, said the nation has lost a great mind, a technocrat and a scientist.

While the All-College Students Union held a candlelight condolence meeting near the Town Hall in the evening, the Indian Catholic Youth Movement paid tribute at Kadri Park by raising funds for the treatment of an eight-year-old girl suffering from cancer.

Throught the city there was a pall of gloom and mourning for the great personality that this great scientist, misile and space expert and statesman that Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam was while being a sincere human to the common man.
