DK origin gymnast electrocuted during roof top travel in Mumbai local train

Udupi, April 11,2016 : A 40 year old gymnastic trainer having his roots in Padubidri,  was electrocuted while he was travelling atop a local train  in  Mumbai on April 8, Friday. The incident took place near Dombivili Station.


nivedan shettyThe deceased is  Padubidri  Alangaruguthu Nivadan Gunaker Shetty, a resident of sub-urban Kurla. He was working as a gymnastic trainer at Singapore since six months.

Gunaker Shetty who was in Mumbai on a two-week leave   had arrived just four days ago. The tragedy struck when Gunaker who was very tall ( 6 foot, 3 inches) on finding heavy rush in the train  leaving for Dadar had decided to travel on the rooftop of the train.


It has been gathered that  there was heavy rush in local trains that day owing to the Gudi Padwa celebration organised at Shivaji Park by Raj Thackeray.

 It is learnt, as the train reached Dombivili station, Shetty came into contact with a 24,000 volts  power cable. Though electricity connection was immediately snapped and Shetty was rushed to the hospital, he was declared brought dead.

His death has come in as a major shock to his family which had lost Gunaker’s elder brother Nischal Shetty in a road accident  near Kaup in December last year.

Gunakar Shetty  was an alumnus of Vijaya College and had even acted in a Kannada movie `Kannada Kanda.’ He was close to several sandalwood stars and was also part of  Jayakarnataka organisation of Muttappa Rai.
