DK media downs pens to display might in games

Mangaluru, April 19, 2015:  Journalists and those working in media organisations downed their pens to  whole heartedly compete in the sports and games organised jointly by the Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists, the Mangaluru Press Club and Patrika Bhavan Trust on April 19, Sunday.

Apart from the sprint events  100, 200 and 400 meters dash, there were other interesting competitions.  Ice cream gobbling, banana and gunny bag races and so on. At least ten  teams participated in the underarm cricket tournament.

To  stave off the hot humid weather, the day  was kicked off with an ice-cream eating competition,   followed by a banana eating competition which gave energy and spirit to all present. The sprint events that tested the endurance and stamina of journalists.  The most popular item was ’the  4 over’ underarm cricket .  One of the teams was the Media Club team that came second in a State-level cricket tournament held in Madikeri recently.

The team from Namma TV, a private local channel, won the final match defeating the team from Spandana TV, another local channel. Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports K. Abhayachandra Jain inaugurated the sports competition. Police Commissioner S. Murugan presided over the function. The programme indeed proved that the bat is mightier than than the pen.
