DK district serves notices to 109 liquor retail outlets

Mangaluru, Aprl 3, 2017: The Deputy Commissioner (Excise), Dakshina Kannada, has issued notices for the closure of 109 liquor retail outlets on the national and State Highways in the district   Deputy Commissioner (Excise) Kurshid Begum said that notices have also been issued to five liquor outlets of State government-held MSIL.

She said that her office here has not received any orders from the head office following the Supreme Court’s clarification on Friday that the ban applies to bars, pubs and restaurants located on the highways.

Convener of Dakshina Kannada Liquor Vendors Association Rajgopal Rai said that the clarification by the Supreme Court on Friday has come as shock to vendors.

“Instead of strict enforcement against drunken driving, we vendors are made to pay for no fault of ours,” he said.

Rai added that the liquor outlets will not close immediately as their licences are valid till June. The State association of vendors will seek the intervention of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, he said.
