yettinaholeHe said that it is high time the government  wakes up and assess the pros and cons of the project before proceeding. The government should ensure that no harm is done to natural resources and nature, which will have a catastrophic effect on the district.

Stating that the results of Kotekar and Vittal town panchayats in Dakshina Kannada district is an indication for Assembly elections in Karnataka in 2018, he said the voters have expressed their disappointment with the Congress’ rule in the state and have favoured the BJP.

Water crisis  :  He said that the Dakshina Kannada district is reeling under water crisis and the negligence of administrative mechanism has failed to tackle the problem.

The district in-charge minister merely believed the officials who gave wrong figures on the availability of water and hence, has failed to understand the ground reality on the availability of water at Thumbe vented dam, he charged.

Had the state government announced the reservation list for the zilla panchayat president and vice president soon after the election, the administration, along with the members, would have chalked out plans to tackle the water crisis, said Nayak.

The BJP in the Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat will chalk out programmes for the conservation of water and increasing the ground water-table in the district in its five-year term. He said that out of 21 multi village drinking water schemes, only five are being implemented in the constituency of District In-charge Minister B Ramanath Rai. The remaining projects have been neglected.

The zilla panchayat members will impress upon the state government to accelerate the multi-village drinking water schemes in Dakshina Kannada, said Nayak. Through construction of check dams and recharge of ground water, all efforts will be made to increase the ground water.

The zilla panchayat will also emphasise on Swaccha Bharath Mission and will initiate a drive to plant jackfruit saplings across the district. Steps will be taken to set up jackfruit development clusters in rural Dakshina Kannada, he added.

To a query on dividing the five-year term of the zilla panchayat president to 30-month term among two candidates, the president said that the decision will be taken based on the performance of the president after 30 months.
