Rai further accused Nalin of putting in no effort to see to it that the service road alongside the BC Road-Suratkal NH was completed at the earliest. “The MP has done nothing in this regard despite there being a rule that toll cannot be collected unless service road is completed.”

He also accused the MP of trying to project that the Shiradi Ghat stretch repair works was an achievement of the BJP while the fact was that it was approved  during the UPA rule and when Oscar Fernandes was the Highway Minister.

“If Nalin considers himself as the No. 1 MP then let him get an IIT, international railway station and a full-fledged  passport office sanctioned for Mangaluru,” he challenged.

Also criticising the BJP led NDA government at the Centre, Rai questioned what the government had to say regarding the Lalit Modi issue  at a time when the party speaks in length about corruption-free rule.

When the Town Hall renovation issue was  raised, the Minister chose to make a veiled blame  on erstwhile Commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati by saying that an ‘Upright’ officer who  while participating in a review meet held in January had assured to complete the work in three months, was unable to keep her promise. “Another special meet was held on June 22 and it has been decided to complete the work by August,” Rai said.

Rai further alleged that the BJP leaders who while interacting with him earlier wanted the transfer of the Commissioner while  they were now issuing media statements that her transfer was unacceptable.
