DK MP Nalin urges to start Ghat road work earlier

Mangalore, July 29, 2014:  Speaking at a meeting on Shiradi Ghat road and the progress of tender for the work at the DK DC’s office  on July 28,  MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has directed the officials from national highway to start the work on repair of 47-km stretch of Shiradi Ghat before December.


nalin kumarThe renovation of the stretch is at a cost of  Rs.155.18 crore. The MP  said that road will have to close  for about six months for the work to progress. “With the closure of the road, we have to ensure that no inconvenience is created for the passengers.


An alternative, is for the railways at the centre to start additional passenger train services between Mangalore-Bangalore, Mangalore-Hassan and Subrahmanya-Hassan and goods train services to transport goods from Mangalore to other parts of the State. If  proposals for additional trains are submitted to me immediately, then I will get it sanctioned during the present  monsoon session  of Parliament ,” he said.


The MP went on to state that potholes and defects that developed on the national highways that pass through Dakshina Kannada district, following heavy rainfall should be attended to on a priority basis. The work on fourlaning of National Highway from Surathkal to Kundapura is stalled and causing inconvenience to public. The work should be resumed and completed n the next three months.

Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim directed NHAI Project Director Sriram Mishra to make changes in the proposal of a flyover to be constructed at Pumpwell Circle in Mangalore and launch  the work with out delay.  Executive Engineer Nataraj, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sadashiva Prabhu, Mangalore City Corporation Joint Commissioner Gokul Das Nayak, Executive Engineer Rajashekar and others were present at the meet.
