DK Journalists’ Union condemns attack on Gangolli scribe; demands arrest of accused

Mangaluru, Nov 29, 2014: A delegation of the DK District Working Journalists’ Union met Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim on November 29, Saturday and forwarded a memorandum to the Chief Minister through him   seeking arrest of those responsible for the recent assault on   journalist B Raghavendra Pai in Gangolli.

The delegation led by Jagannath Shetty Bala, President of the Union, in its memorandum has strongly condemned the incident wherein a group of around 30 to 40 persons waylaid Pai’s bike on November 27, Thursday night and attacked him with cricket bat and hockey sticks, when he was on way  to a place nearby  following information that a clash was underway.

Pointing out that cases of atrocities on journalists  were on the rise in the state, the memorandum  urged the CM to intervene in the matter to ensure the arrest of the accused in the Pai case and initiate stern action against them. The memorandum further requested the Chief Minister to take steps to prevent  attempts to curb the freedom of the Press.

The delegation included P.B. Hariprasad Rai, former president of the union, Sukesh Kumar, Sudhaker Ermal, Vice Presidents,  Srinivas Nayak Indaje, General Secretary, Ramakrishna R, Press Club President, Venkatesh Bantwal, Secretary, Ibrahim Adkasthala, Treasurer, Ansar Inoli, Pushparaj Shetty, B.N. Satyavathi and others.
