DK DC holds meet re projects, to sort out land issues

Mangaluru, Sep 04, 2016:  A meeting to review the progress of development works of the MCC civic body, the DK DC  Dr K.G. Jagadeesha on Sept 3, Saturday, as directed by him, the meeting with private land owners whose land was required for road and footpath projects.

 

The land owners should be apprised about the projects being taken up and why their land was required. If required, affidavit could be taken from land owners so that they could not refuse to part with the land when implementing the project.  The DK DC taking exception to the Mangaluru City Corporation taking up road and footpath projects without clearing land issues,  instructed the commissioner of the corporation, Mohammed Nazir, to sort out the issues with in a month and complete the pending projects at the earliest.

The DK DC  said that wherever his intervention was required to sort out land issues, he would do it.  While reviewing each of the projects, the Deputy Commissioner found that some of them were pending since 2011, he said that if people at a particular locality objected to road-widening or footpath projects by refusing to part with the land, funds reserved for those projects could be diverted for other projects. 

DK DC Jagadeesha said that sand was available for road concrete and other development works of the corporation.He asked the corporation engineers to contact the Public Works Department for lifting sand from stock.K.S. Linge Gowda, Executive Engineer, told the meeting that the Car Street-Durga Mahal Road widening and upgrading project would be over by March-end next except a bridge at Kudroli. The new bridge would be ready by May next, he said.
Mayor for speed limit in city :  Mayor Harinath said here that there was a need to restrict the speed limit of vehicles in the central business district area and in old Mangaluru to 40 km per hour or below.

Meeting proposed : J.R. Lobo, MLA, Mangaluru City South, said that a meeting of stakeholders would be called in a few days to discuss traffic issues.  Who is coming in the way of widening the Ganapathi High School Road?

According to a senior engineer in the Mangaluru City Corporation, it is owners of a multi-storeyed hotel on the same road. The engineer said that though the compound walls of other establishments on the same road were demolished a year ago for road-widening, the owners of the particular hotel were not agreeing and preventing it by bringing “political pressure”. Hence, the project is yet to take off. The DK DC asked the corporation to renew the effort or he would intervene to get it cleared. J.R. Lobo, MLA, Mangaluru City South, said that it was an important road for diverting traffic to ease congestion on the main Hampankatta Road.
