DK DC Ibrahim moots high co-ord between MCC, NHAI and police

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Feb 17, 2016:  DK DC Adoor B Ibrahim has directed  MCC -Mangaluru City Corporation to be in constant touch with  NHAI -National Highways Authority of India  on the ongoing four-laning of Talapady-Kundapur National Highway, especially the work going on in MCC limits. Lack of coordination between NHAI, MCC and Mangaluru City Traffic Police has resulted in daily traffic snarls in areas such as Mahavir Circle, throwing traffic out of gear and causing serious trouble to many.

Chairing a meeting of all stakeholders,  DK DC Ibrahim said rather than each agency passing the buck for the mess, it is prudent if each agency worked in tandem to minimize problems to motorists. "MCC engineers should be in touch with NHAI on a daily basis and ensure that the four-laning work does not badly affect flow of traffic," he said, adding that MCC should possess full information of all such major infrastructure works in its jurisdiction.

Samson Vijaykumar, NHAI project director said the work on Talapady-Kundapur four-laning will be completed by June end barring the flyovers at Thokkottu, Pumpwell and Kundapur. NHAI has sent proposals to construct service roads wherever necessary, he said. Noting that technical design committee and union ministry of road transport and highways has finalized the Pumpwell flyover design, he said it will be difficult to change the design at this stage as demanded locally.  Noting that work on the service road at Kottara Chowki has been started,

Vijaykumar said drains that are not necessary along this road will be closed. There is no commercial complex coming near Talapady tollgate. Thokkotu flyover will be completed by December this year. With Thokkottu-Yekkur four-laning complete, the four-lane road from Yekkur to Pumpwell will be thrown open to traffic once the girder work on the Yekkur flyover is completed, Vijaykumar added.
