The worst affected were women as they managed homes.  They would have to fetch water from far away places.

The government was set to divert the Nethravati  river  in the Yettinahole project. It is an injustice to people it alleged.

The release said that if the river was diverted fisheries sector and agriculture sector would be hit. Flood water would need to flow into the sea as it brought food to fish.  Diverting a river would also affect the ground water table in the district. The ongoing project would not be able to supply water to Chickaballapur and Kolar districts and must be immediately stopped.
