DC gives officials three days time to decide on sand mining in CRZ

Mangalore, Sep 16, 2014: Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim, staed  the decision on extracting sand from sand bars identified in the CRZ limits in Mangalore taluk should be taken jointly by CRZ, Mines and Geology and Fisheries department officials, within three days.


dc press meet Chairing a meeting of CRZ Committee here on September 15,  CRZ Regional Director Chandrashekar said that the National Institute of Technology (NITKSurathkal) has identified 19 sand bars in the taluk. The decision of the district level CRZ committee on sand extraction will be sent to Karnataka State Coastal Zone Management Authority (KSCZMA).

The NITK has identified a total of 151.16 hectare land for sand mining. They are Mulihithlu (8 hectare), Jeppinamogru (27.60 hectare), Kannur (20.50 hectare), Adyar (5 hectare), Arkula (5 hectare), Harekala (5 hectare), Pavoor (5 hectare), Bangrakuloor (5 hectare), Padukodi (5 hectare), Bolur (10 hectare), Panambur (5 hectare), Kunjathbail (5 hectare), Thokoor (5 hectare), Kenjar 1 (5 hectare), Kenjar 2 (7 hectare), Moodushedde (5 hectare), Moodushedde-Adyapady-Kandavara (12 hectare), Muloor (5 hectare), UlaibettuMuloor (6.50 hectare).

The meeting discussed at length on the CRZ violation in construction houses at Haleyangadi gram panchayat limits, construction of a road across river in Haleyangady, construction of a guest house at Someshwara, dumping of waste to Phalguni river at Bangra Kuloor. The DC said that local body authorities should initiate measures to clear the illegal structures that have come up on CRZ jurisdiction. The violations should be inspected by the CRZ officials.

The DC said that local body authorities should issue notices to the owners of the houses for illegal construction.

PWD engineer should submit a detailed report on the construction of a road across river at Haleyangadi gram panchayat. The DC directed the officials to issue notices to all the ULBs and gram panchayats where poultry waste is dumped into the river and initiate action against those who dump the waste. Additional DC Sadashiva Prabhu was present.
