Mangaluru, May 12, 2015 : In a major effort to check frequent traffic snarls on the busy Charmady Ghat Road, Dakshina Kannada  District Deputy Commissioner  A.B.Ibrahim has banned movement of all sand transportation vehicles on the Charmady Ghat Road on the BC Road Chikkamagaluru NH with immediate effect. The notification issued by the DC will be effective till June 8 midnight.

dc Here it is worth noting that the Charmady Ghat Road was feeling the heat of traffic congestion ever since the Shirady Ghat stretch of road on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru National Highway was closed for traffic owing to repair and maintenance works.

As the number of private vehicles moving on the Charmady Ghat has increased, now being the summer vacation time, the latest directive  by the DC is expected to  be a great relief to frequent commuters on the Charmady Ghat road. At a recent  KDP review meeting, elected representatives had alleged that the increasing number of sand lorries moving on the road has even been responsible for accidents.

The DC has said that the order imposing a ban on sand lorries on Charmady Ghat road would be reviewed after June 8.
