Mangaluru, July 29, 2019: Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil has said that the district administration will be providing three days’ time to educational institutions to destroy mosquito larvae.
He was presiding over a meeting of the heads of various educational institutions in the district at Town Hall on July 29, Monday to sensitize them on the need to check the spread of Dengue.
The DC said the school heads, students and staff should engage in the task of destroying larvae and also take steps to prevent breeding of mosquitoes. The school children must be sensitized on the need to prevent water stagnation as well as to discard water in any container which is found to have mosquito larvae. Parents must be asked to apply neem oil or any other mosquito repellent to the children before sending them off to school, he added.
The DC said he himself would visit a few educational institutions along with the teams that are already entrusted with the responsibility of checking the spread of Dengue. The DC warned of penalty on any erring institution.
In case educational institutions find it difficult to destroy larvae found in large numbers, they can contact the MCC control room on the telephone number – 2220309 so that the MCC team can take up the larvae destroying work, the DC said.
MCC Commissioner Muhammad Nazeer, DDPI Shivaramaiah, District Health Officer Dr Ramakrishna Rao and others were present.
