DC Senthil announces 14 nominations in DK accepted

Mangaluru, Mar 28, 2019: DK DC and  District Returning Officer Sasikanth Senthil made a statement to media on March 27, Wednesday  that post scrutiny, 14 nominations have been accepted in Dakshina Kannada constituency. 


dc_Fifteen persons had filed 24 nominations. The nomination of one Sudarshan of BJP was rejected as he was a dummy candidate and the BJP’s main candidate’s nomination has been accepted.

The candidates whose nominations were accepted are Supreeth Kumar Poojary (Hindustan Janata Party), Vijay Srinivas C (Uttam Prajakeeya Party), Deepak Rajesh Coelho (Independent), Nalin Kumar Kateel (BJP), Maxim Pinto (Independent), Mohammed Elyas (SDPI), Mithun M Rai (Indian National Congress), Ismail Shafiq (Independent), Mohammed Khalid (Independent), Domonic Alexander D’Souza (Independent), Venkatesh Bende (Independent), S Sathish Salian (BSP), Abdul Hamid (Independent), H Suresh Poojary (Independent). The last date for withdrawal of nomination is March 29.

According to the revised electoral list, published on March 16, Dakshina Kannada has 17,24,022 voters. All the voters who had applied recently will get the EPIC shortly. The district has 640 critical polling booths and 1,221 normal booths, he added.

Law Violations  :  The deputy commissioner said that 266 excise law violation cases had been booked in the constituency. About 53,805.52 litres of liquor, worth Rs 77.77 lakh, have been seized.

In addition, vehicles worth Rs 73.31 lakh have been seized in relation to excise law violations. One expenditure-related FIR on 220 pamphlets being transported without obtaining permissions have been registered.

Further, he said that out of 11,631 licensed guns, 11,551 have been deposited in the police stations. Licensed guns pertaining to bank security have been given exemption.

Polling officials  :  The services of 9,346 polling officials will be used for the smooth conduct of the election, Senthil said.

The order on election duty has already been issued to the polling staff. They will be imparted trainining at SDM PU College, Ujire; Davala College, Moodbidri; Rosario School, Pandeshwar; Canara High School, Urwa; Ramakrishna Educational Institutions, Bunts Hostel; Infant Jesus English Medium School, Modankaup; Vivekananda Kannada Medium School, Thenkila and Government PU College, Sullia on March 31 and April 9.

Senthil reiterated that voters’ slip, issued by the authorities, were not an identity card to exercise franchise. Along with voters slip, the voters should furnish any one of the 11 identity cards accepted by the Election Commission of India.

Complaints  :  Stating that toll free number (1950) and cVigil app has been receiving complaints from the general public, Senthil said a total of 2,062 calls had been received. Of this 1,942 calls were on seeking information regarding polling and EPIC. As many as 120 calls were on complaints, he added.

The cVigil app has received 23 complaints so far and all the complaints have been attended, he added.

To a query on Congress filing objections to the nomination of BJP candidate, Senthil said that two objections were filed related to minor details in the affidavit.

As the candidate had furnished all the details in the affidavit, the objections have been overruled and nomination has been accepted, he added.
