Cyclists in city’s first ’midnight’ peddling

Mangaluru, Dec 18, 2015 : Cyclists in Mangaluru are geared up to convey that cycling is healthy and safer to be undertaken anytime as they would ride their cycles  Dec 19 Saturday midnight. Mangalore Bicycle Club, which is spearheading the initiative, has said that it would be the first of its midnight rides in the coastal city.

At the stroke of 12 00  midnight on Dec 19, Saturday, members of MBC will assemble in front of the city corporation building and start pedalling for a two-hour ride covering approximately 30 km criss-crossing Mangaluru.

MBC founder member Ganesh Nayak in a WhatsApp post here said, “We as a group of passionate cyclists want to encourage Mangalureans from all age groups to enjoy cycling with an objective of leading a healthier lifestyle. Through this night ride, we would like to give confidence to citizens of Mangaluru that it is safe and enjoyable to use cycling for various commuter needs in our city.”

At least  40 cyclists have registered for the event and they will be joined by celebrity Raksha Shenoy and model Vardhan Pai. He said, “Their presence will motivate fellow cyclists and emphasise on need for fitness in one’s lifestyle and also send the message of safe and enjoyable cycling in our city.”

 Nayak said that a few of the participants, who are passionate about riding, might even continue after 2 a.m. after fellow cyclists wind up the ride.

The ride will proceed towards Kottara, Kulur and then to Chilimbi, touch Lady Hill, go to Mannagudda, then on to Ballalbagh, proceed to Mallikatte via PVS junction and from then on to Nantoor, Circuit House, Jail Road, and again towards PVS junction to touch City Centre, Fr. Muller, Attavar, Wenlock, VT Road, Car Street, Mannagudda and end at Lady Hill.
