Customs sleuths seize Rs 45.92 lakh of smuggled gold at MIA

Mangaluru, March 3, 2024: Customs authorities at Mangaluru International Airport thwarted an illegal gold smuggling attempt on Sunday when they intercepted a passenger arriving from Dubai.

The individual, originating from Kasaragod, was found concealing gold worth Rs 46 lakh in his rectum. Three oval-shaped pellets containing a paste-like substance were discovered during the inspection, leading to his arrest.

The seized gold, totaling 729 grams of 24-carat purity, is valued at around Rs 45,92,700. This incident is the latest in a string of smuggling endeavors reported at Mangalore airport.
