Customs seizes large sum of money at Mangaluru International Airport

Mangaluru: July 10, 2015: Officials of Customs at Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) at Kenjar here seized foreign currency of valued 9,000 Saudi Arabian Riyals, 23,000 Qatar Riyals, 350 Omani Riyal, in various denominations, equivalent to Rs 6,13,068 from Mohammed Ali on Monday. A press communique from V Selvadurai, assistant commissioner of customs on Thursday said the accused haled from Nellikunnu post in Kasaragod district of Kerala.


Foreign currency

 

Mohammed Ali was detained during departure from Mangaluru International Airport where he was scheduled to board the Jet Airways flight 9W532 to Dubai. Selvadurai said Mohammed Ali attempted to smuggle the above mentioned foreign currency out of India without valid money exchange documents and by concealment in his checked-in baggage. Further investigation is under progress, Selvadurai noted.
